(Crazy how time flies by...)

This is simply to give a brief synopsis of my three edits on the Jack Bauer wiki. Two of my edits were my own personal grammar and spell checks. As for my other edit, I became very disgruntled when someone wrote how Jack was a "flawed hero."

I'm very dissappointed with the other Jack Bauer loyals like myself (well apparently not so much like myself). I felt that it was perfectly viable to compare Jack to a modern day superman, I guess I was wrong.

The article itself really hasn't changed too much, and most edits and addendums come every week after the latest episode of the show. As for now, I'm all wikipedia-ed out....

It's been a pleasure maintaining this blog, we shall see how much longer I can keep up with it...

So long.

Final edit for Jack Bauer wiki

My final edit on the Jack Bauer wiki can be seen here, under the "biography and pre-24" headline. This last edit had a similar flavor to that of my first one. Due to my poor luck with getting wikipedia and the editors of its plethora of articles to accept my added material, I chose to play "English teacher" again and do some more grammar editing. A tense change here and there, as well as some re-wording to make the paragraphs more fluid.

Well, I guess that's my last required edit on wikipedia for this class...

cheers

Overview of DXArmy wiki article

Well, you won't believe this. It was dedicated to my fraternity SAE here at UD. My first edit was a brief introduction, followed by our fraternity creed and finally making my final edit to the article by adding a complete list of brothers by pledge class. I thought this was a legittimate article, but apparently the wiki editors think otherwise (I think these guys have something against me); they want to delete my article, check this out.

I cant believe the reason is, "Some fraternity which does not make out how it is any different from any other fraternity."

That makes me feel great. It's so funny how Texas Hold 'em was around for so long but didn't get big till ESPNs bottom line ticker read: MLB, NBA, GOLF, POKER...I myself didn't know how to play hold em until sophomore year of college, which supposedly was late. Unfortunately, learning how to play makes you want to play more, which then means you lose more money. It's really a great game and I will admit to playing it online as well; I spoke about that in this post here. First they touch on the price tag for this monster: $500 AT LEAST!! Looks like I may be waiting a while to pick this one up. However, the post also speaks on how the people at Sony have yet to release the system specs to the game developers in order for them to make the games the best they can be with regards to the capabilities of the new system. This also correlated with our "loocsixela" project spoken of earlier. He was able to give us some insight on things that determine what keyword searches in google can directly relate a search to your site. There are also a number of kinks that can be fine tuned in order to increase your listing rank when searched. These are as follows:

- Title tag
- Page meta tags
- Page header
- Relevant page content
- Keyword density of page

The content in each of those criterion is up to the user's discretion and can be changed however one may please. It also seems that search engine optimization is becoming a fairly viable career path. I love growing up in the internet age...

cheers.

Superman: Fact or Fiction

It seems that my distaste for the editors of the Jack Bauer wiki has led me to make a 2nd edit to said article. This one was short buy sweet. The first line of the wiki states:

"Jack Bauer, a character played by actor Kiefer Sutherland, is the main character in the American television series 24."

This is a completely legittimate statement. However, what followed held little weight in the fictional world of 24. Someone had wrote that, "He is generally viewed as a flawed hero." What does that even mean? This man is responsible for saving the lives of millions in this country at least five seperate times! Some of these actions were even made on Jack's own volition. There is a reason why Jack Bauer doesn't kick back with a beer on his couch and watch T.V., and that reason is because he would simply rather be out saving the world.

The edit I made replaced the words, "flawed hero" with "modern day Superman" (pictured above). Any 24 fan that would disagree with this statement needs to take a step back and realize one thing: you're wrong buddy. Don't ever say my Jack Bauer is a flawed hero, ever! The man has 24 hour days that wouldn't even resemble your worst nightmare.

As for whomever made the correlation of Jack Bauer and the word flawed, I pity you and feel that you need to re-evaluate your life. You can view the edit right here at the very top of the article.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Jack Bauer

Some late night "wikipedia-ing" lead me to disgust when reading the Jack Bauer wiki I chose to edit for the class project.

I did some grammar and spell checking for the derelicts that put this article together. While reading through the "biography" section for Jack Bauer, I noticed a handful of spelling and grammatical errors that left most sentances making absolutely no sense. So I went in, the good samaritan I am, and did a little Microsoft word-esque "spell-check."

They do make a point at the top of the article to say that none of the information is referenced but simply derivative of the knowledge of 24 fans around the globe. I will inculde myself in any such realm of being and maybe even make myself the king of said group.

As of right now I give this Jack Bauer wikipedia article 97.6% validity. The lack of receving 2.4% more from scribes such as myself is simply due to the fact that I am very loocsixela (that's yiddish for stubborn)...

At least someone likes my material...

My friend and fellow team mate Scott has been nice enough to write a post on how damn good of a blogger I am, just kidding. This wiki is somewhat of a personal attempt to get my friends on the map persay. A couple of my buddies from home put together a rap group: DXA. This is short for "Dirty Explicit Artists", hence the title of this post. My initial wiki entries for their article are minimal as of right now due to the fact that I need to get some more information and feedback from the group themselves.

The wiki can be viewed here.

You can also check them out on their website www.dxarmy.com. If you like rap, and when I say that I don't mean the tripe that our ears are littered with thanks to the radio and MTV; I am referring to quality rap. These guys push out a plethora of great lyrics and metaphors; and my bestfriend Chuck (DJ Ice Rocks) is their producer who makes all their beats. I have watched him progress from his first set of turntables all the way to the SP-1200 that he uses now. I bet your best friend doesn't own an SP-1200...

Moving on...

These guys never fail to amaze me with their explosion of talents with regards to writing rhymes, hooks and beats to eventually formulate an fantastic rap track.

They released their first album: Don't Expect Answers, in August of 2005 and it is a very solid piece of work. I was actually sent down here at the beginning of this school year with a box of cds to sell for $5 bucks a pop. It's really worth it, and that can be proved by the fact that I have moved around 15 or so albums for them to my friends here on campus.

If you're interested in a CD, give me a shout. As for now, check out the wiki article.

Merry loocsixela...

Report: IM Underused as Ad Medium

On further news, Clickz has informed people that ad campaigns are not utilizing the Instant Messaging interface as much as they should be. IM has been around for quite some time and is by no means decreasing in usage. Especially as my generation of users enters the business world it will become even more prevalent. IM plays a HUGE role in the lives of college kids, whether you are an "away message hunter" or want to pirate as many music and video files as possible via AIM's (AOL's Instant Messenger) "send-file / get-file" system; a joint-venture of convenience and free music.

As for advertisements on IMs, why not? They have advertisements everywhere else now, so why not put it right in your face everytime you so desperately need to send that ever so popular instant message of: "What's up?"

I tend to get alot of these: "Are you there?" Simply because I seldom spend time IM-ing and usually have an away message on. Speaking of which, and I am by no means being chauvinistic when I say this, I feel that the females need to tone down the away messages a little bit. I really don't need to know your agenda for the entire day. A simple "not here, call the cell" will suffice if you have stepped out of the house for a good portion of the day.

Here is an example of what I am talking about:

"Breakfast with Katie, Test, Class, gym, back home for pilates, lunch with my lovers, library for a bit, phone call with my BFF, tanning, Big Little revelation (LOL LOL), Airband practice, nap, shower, getting readyyy, cocktails with the roomies, OUT...this will be the BEST DAY EVERRR"

There it is ladies and gents, a typical away mesage (completely fabricated but still typical) of a college female. Now all that away message needs is a little advertisement for alcohol and a tanning salon and we are good as gold.

My work is done here, check out the ClickZ article though, it's short but sweet.

Final wiki edit for 24

I made my last edit to the 24 wikipedia article I originally chose to grace with my expertise on said topic. The edit can be viewed under the "conspiracies" heading not too far down the page. Someone made a correlation to 24 and conspiracy by explaining how each season (excluding 4) maintains some derivation thereof. My edit was not a correction by simply an addendum. With regards to season 5, the original edit stated that, "Day 5 was planned to secure oil in central asia." This is correct, however the American government's intentions were not limited to oil but also to increase the prescence and stature of the United States military. This point was stated by Walt Cummings prior to his introduction with death.

Who ever thought oil would be such a commodity? I mean, look at gas prices, crazy...

Moving right along.

It's interesting how in this current season of 24, the writers chose to make the U.S. government the main enemy and not some random group of terrorists. Some may even think that this season's motives have been a minor depiction of our current Commander in Chief. Ironically enough, the writer's have made a strict point to say (in any articles I have come across) that they are in no way demeaning the integrity of the government and that their scripts are 100% fictitious.

Due to the massive amount of liberals in the T.V. / Movie business, I fail to believe this to the fullest extent. However, I must take their word for it, being that these writers are the same people that have kept me on the edge of my seat for 5 consecutive seasons.

Thank you 24 staff for creating such a great television show.

Myspace Vs. I know of two incredibly user-friendly sites that cater to such protocols. 1) Facebook, 2) Myspace. The first one is more geared towards college students but also allows one to represent themself as an alumni/alumna. That is of course if they have indeed received the most important receipt of their life: A college diploma. I will admit to being a member on facebook but refuse to adopt the new slang when meeting someone interesting of the opposite sex i.e. "Will you facebook me?"

Sorry hun, I seldom spend time "facebooking" and only find myself on there if someone is in dire need of adding me to their list of friends. I like the interconnectivity of the site though. It certainly represents that whole new internet marketing slogan people keep talking about, "the more people that use it, the easier it becomes..." Not exactly sure why I used quotes...or an ellipses for that matter.

Moving right along.

Myspace seems to be the new thing. Originally it was set up for those who consider themselves starving musicians/artisits and want to get people to hear their music (or garbage) they are manufacturing. Now, it seems to have taken a google-esque uprising over petty sites such as friendster. (I actually set up one of these friendster accounts last summer out of sheer boredom).

Hopefully one day everyone will be on my space. I mean with that crazy quote I wrote 2 paragraphs up, an increase in usership of myspace can account for limitless possibilties! Or maybe people will just keep digging up their old high school sweet hearts.

As for now, I bid you farewell.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ablognamedgob.blogspot.com/2006/04/myspace-vs-facebook-vs-friendster.html' title='Myspace Vs. My interest stemmed from the fact that I am actually in my own pool of 70 or so people on CBS Sportline. As of right now I am in third place, but as the games progress my success will most likely decrease (I don't want to jinx anything over here). Anyway, this article by Pete Lerma explains how March Madness is once again "on demand" for those who cannot view the games on their own televisions. I didn't see much of a need for a website hosting such a thing when every single game can be watched on basic cable, and let's be honest, who doesn't have basic cable? (please don't be offended non-basic cable users).

So, after some thought, I realized that millions of people are in their offices during the time these games are being played. I mean College basketball does sound like a delicious way to waste time in a cubicle; eventhough I doubt superiors would be pleased with their sub-ordinates screaming in their cubicles when their brackets meet a gut-wrenching, final second, 3-pointer, upset victory. Wow, try saying that one 3 times fast, can anyone say run-on sentance?

Lerma also explains that a cap limit was set on the number of users allowed to view the games simultaneously. Well, this is no fun. What the hell am I supposed to do while Reddick_lover_14 is sitting in my "courtside" seat! The author expresses that he made a number of suggestions to the website last year as to things that could/should be changed with their March Madness on demand program. The games are also offered to you via iTunes, and if you don't have that program I highly recommend downloading it as I have been so kind to offer a direct link within my own blog post. Apparently games can be purchased through iTunes at a steep price tag of $1.99 (why would someone pay anything for something that can be viewed for free is my question)??

Well enough of my opinions, as for Lerma's own ideas check out the article.

A True Gentleman

Something I like to consider myself to be perfectly honest, but you can formulate your own opinions. This post stems from my second wikipedia edit on my fraternity chapter's wiki, created by yours truly. I finally added more than just 3 sentances and gave a little bit of an idea as to what the page in essence is "trying" to be, which basically is just another wikipedia article. I also added in our fraternity's mission statement. It's titled The True Gentleman and has been echoed in the halls of Sigma Alpha Epsilon for over one hundred years nation wide. Feel free to take a look, after all this information is by no means private.

More to come on Del Alpha. As for now I must commence my wiki for DXA, my buddies rap group, which is awesome and they are something you should definetly check out. I got cds for sale, $5 bucks a pop for some quality hip-hop. Let me know if this plug for them led you to P-O-P. That's "point-of-purchase" for all you non business majors.

Wait a minute, is that a funnel hanging from the third floor window of our fraternity house? He does a great job of getting you to understand the greater goods of David Chase's execution on this past weekend's show. A minor side note, I actually went to Junior High School with A.J. Soprano, more formally known as Robert Iler. This kid gets some bad press, but he had some great jokes at my buddy's bar-mitzvah back in 7th grade. Hats off to Rob for coming out of Wagner Junior High School and grabbing a spot on one of HBO's biggest shows.

As for the other love of my life, 24. One question to the writers. Why did you have to kill Tony? I was furious but, these folks labeled Tony has "God" himself...I'm sure they were real pissed. Fortunately enough I was able to sneak my own comments in to the 24 wiki I am editing for class. Towards the bottom of the article there is a general trivia section, along with a list of character deaths throughout the tenure of the show. They initially had wrote that Tony almost died in the first episode of this current season, however this was never finalized on the article due to the fact that he wasn't dead, yet. Unfortunately the bloody scythe of death introduced Tony to his demise in last night's episode (sorry if I spoiled that, but if you watch 24 you should've been tuned in anyway).

My edit can be viewed here, just above the "fan phone" headline. He is the Director of Business Development for a company named Pheedo. Sub-titled, "RSS +Weblog Marketing Solutions", Pheedo strives to helps those in the blogosphere develop, execute and maintain "flexible advertising solutions." It's great how during the internet's baby years, advertising across said medium was shunned. Now, the internet is littered with a menagerie of advertisements. Glad to see that the tides have turned in such a fashion, especially since I myself will be getting a degree in Marketing...someday.

Within this Skype presentation, a large emphasis was put on the convenience of RSS usage. As my title above says, it is really simple...syndication, pun well intended. This ease of use and user friendliness is displayed by subscription services such as bloglines in order to neatly organize your daily web page viewings. I have certainly come to learn how RSS is going to soon (if it hasn't already) take the internet by storm. I mean for all intents and purposes, it is really simple syndication (bad joke, but I had to say it again).

As for the Skype link up top that I barely touched on, do check out the service if you have never heard of it. I just learned about it while taking this class and was pretty amazed by the deal. It's free international calling via the web, as long as both parties have downloaded the program.

Enjoy.

Some people are so desperate

I was perusing through my teamate's blogs when i came across this hysterical display of "not reading the fine print." During the lecture, the hobby of online gambling came into discussion. Being an advocate of said pastime, I was more than happy to admit that I have taken a stab at the online gambling scene (with minimal success). Come to think of it, my live casino experience has also amounted to me leaving "in the red." I went to Vegas this past summer and stayed here with some buddies and was up $300 sum odd dollars at one point after a solid hour of playing craps.

That same money was then burned entirely at the Bellagio after a miserable display of dice rolling. However, my loss of money did not concern me too much since I was in Las Vegas and I have never been to a cooler place. I mean, where else are their no open container laws? New Orleans I think. But, being able to sip on a bud light while walking down the strip and tipping my hat to police officers was like walking in a dream world.

I just want to say that I love craps. It's hands down the best game in the casino with the best odds, and the best feeling is obtained, provided the shooter rolls the point.

As for the online scene, my experience has been limited to Texas Hold 'em. A site I most commonly use is Golden Palace. Now I know that online gambling is illegal, but there is always a loophole. To the best of my knowledge, these sites are headquartered overseas, therefore placing themselves out of America's jurisdiction. Also, just for some extra back up, all these sites offer "play money" games, which is the same thing as Monopoly money. A plethora of other sites also host similar activities.

As for my stand point, gambling is awesome and so much fun. You just don't want to get addicted (I mean, getting addicted to anything is NOT a good thing). I think the government needs to utilize it's resources on preventing such things as 9/11 and our nation's president being a complete idiot as opposed to people trying to have a little fun with their money.

I mean for all intents and purposes, playing the stock market could be considered a form of gambling, but I'm not going any further with that one.

Next time you go to the casino, try rolling the dice. I guarantee you will love it.

24 fans

I love finding day in and day out that more and more people watch, love, cherish, and enjoy 24 just like I do. I feel like this is a common notion amongst our society. I also feel like Newark Delaware is surrounded by a massive glass bubble where the devil himself is our personal meteorologist. It's march, if I see a drop of snow I might flip out; and as for cold rain, well you're not much better. The cold just puts a damper on everything. It makes you less willing to leave the confines of your home, something that I try to do as often as I can just to get a breath of fresh (cold) air every once in a while.

My distaste for the winter also may have to do with the fact that I was born in the summer (June 22nd 1984 to be precise). However, this whole desire to blog about the cold does stem from this posting read here. I even wanted to comment on said posting since it was something I was so passionate about.

"Down with the cold, in with the old!"...Well that quote seems to make no sense whatsoever.

Conclusively, the final straw with the cold that I know kids of my age, and similar social acceptance will certainly understand. Going out to the bar (or anywhere for that matter) with 80 layers on is the worst! Oh yea, I said it. I feel especially bad for the ladies who feel it is a requirement to dress up every single time they go out. Darling, we don't need to see your legs if its 20 degrees outside. Do both of us a favor and throw on a pair of jeans.

As for now, I'm late for class.

Ciao.

First Wiki edit

Well, I have finally edited my first wikipedia article. I chose to start off by editing the 24 (TV show) article since the current season has been in full swing for just about a month. To be completely honest, I am obsessed with this show. The suspense reflected at the ending of each episode makes you crave to watch the next one (this is most easily executed if watching via DVD). As for the current season, us die hard 24 fans need to wait a whole week for the next addition in this fantastic piece of television genius. My edit on wikipedia was a minor one and simply an addendum to an afforementioned point stated about each episode's introduction. To see exactly what I did, view the article in wikipedia and then click on the "history" tab (or just click that hyperlink right there).

The man pictured above is actor Dennis Haysbert. Besides playing Senator/President David Palmer throughout his 24 career; his other noted credits would be his comedic portrayal of Pedro Cerrano in the motion picture: Major League, as well as the current spokesman for Allstate Insurance. We all know Haysbert's amazing delivery, "That's Allstate's stand", after being witness to an unfortunate car accident. Anyways, my wiki edit has to do with the fact that Season 1 of 24 takes place on the day of the California Presidential Primary; and we later get to see Palmer's rise to the top.

Do yourself a favor. Get your hands on Season 1 of 24 (in my opinion it is probably the best out of all of them, yet I cannot include Season 5 since an ending is yet to be reached). One season can be watched in a span of 3 days. My longest run personally was a sitting of TWELVE straight episodes with my brother. Hopefully we can all come to an understanding of how awesome this show actually is.

Disclaimer: For other fans of 24, please do not take offense in the fact that my first post has neglected any mention of Jack Bauer, the main character played by Kiefer Sutherland. I love Jack just as much as you (if not more), and I also might have to include myself in this here percentage.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia is a fantastic online resource that I myself just recently discovered. Esentially it is a free online Encyclopedia, but there's a hitch. It's open source, meaning that anyone who wants can edit whichever article they please. For the class mentioned in my last post, I am required to edit 4 articles of my choice. The links for my choices are listed over on the side bar to the left. Another option was to create our own "Wiki" in order to add content of our own interests to this wonderful medium referred to as: the internet. So for my fourth pick I decided to create my own article. A fundamental development beyond all Wikis. Just kidding, it's merely an article about my fraternity. More specifically, the Delaware Alpha chapter which is located right here in the awful "city" of Newark. Catch you guys on the flip side...

why blog?

Why not? As you can see I keep the Q+A pretty simple. My entrance to the blogosphere is actually a direct order from a syllabus for a marketing class i'm taking, here's some proof. I knew my first experience to maintain my own blog was somewhere on the horizon, yet I never thought it would be a requirement for a senior level business course.

To be honest, this is not my first time "blogging." My summer job for the past two years had provided me with plenty of time to check out the editorials of many different people. For starters, I tried to keep up with my own brother's blog on a daily basis; amongst a plethora of others that provided a quick laugh.

That's all for now.

"hermano!" - G.O.B.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I feel that a more than satisfactory introductory entry would be an explanation of the title: A blog named Gob. The name Gob (pronounced Jobe) is short for, George Oscar Bluth. This is my little way of paying homage to the hysterically funny sitcom "Arrested Development." Gob, portrayed by actor Will Arnet, is probably the funniest character in television history (real and cartoon). I would also put "Arrested" up in my top five favorite television shows of all time; more to come on the other four that made the grade. Conclusively, check it out; if you don't find it funny, then your sense of humor is lacking.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed on this blog are those solely of the author and are not always expected to agree with the reader.
